Downtown revitalization effort taking shape (Local News ~ 10/08/10)
Committees took shape and focus areas were defined at the second meeting of the Main Street Committee, which is carrying on the work of the Vision 2030 effort. Downtown Coordinator DJ Miller said the turnout of two dozen people volunteering to participate in the effort was heartening and more than he expected. The 2010 softball season ended for the Monett Lady Cubs Thursday night as they fell 7-5 to Aurora. The Lady Cubs jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but couldn't hang on. In the first inning, Raigan Ratliff singled and stole second. She advanced third on a groundout by Katie Upchurch. Kelsey Wiseman then hit a double, and advanced to third on a throwing error. As twilight settled in over Broadway last night, the street filled with people. The crowd was mostly youngsters, enthusiastic, cheering, ready for a show. At 7:30 p.m. the show arrived in the form of Monett's first night-time homecoming parade. Principal David Steward devised the alternative to the Friday afternoon dash across town for a 3:30 parade as a way to enhance safety. Drug Court program is working

Key figures in the Barry County Drug Court program and some of the program participants explained the benefits of the targeted approach to drug abuse at a recent meeting of the Monett Kiwanis Club. Barry County Prosecutor Johnnie Cox and Associate Circuit Court Judge Victor Head described how Drug Court works.
