School and city partner in golf course project (10/01/10)
Plans are taking shape for a new clubhouse at Monett's Windmill Ridge municipal golf course. A collaboration is planned with the construction technology class at the Southwest Area Career Center. Sales tax takes dip in September (10/01/10)
For the second consecutive month, sales tax revenue in the bi-county area dropped below receipts from a year ago, but third quarter revenues for the area are showing slight improvement as the year progresses. Monett had the largest drop in sales tax income of any bi-county town for the month of September. Monett's two sales taxes for general expenses brought in $170,294.75, down $19,659.15 from last September. Monett's four taxes for the month brought in $34,810.12 less than a year ago...
Shoebox campaign underway (10/01/10)
After a successful Shoebox for Soldiers drive this summer, area residents are being asked to support a Christmas collection effort. Beginning Monday, collections will begin for a Christmas Shoeboxes for Soldiers campaign. Participants are asked to fill a large priority mail flat rate box with items that soldiers would appreciate receiving while they are deployed over the holiday season...
B-L Library Board gets clean audit (10/01/10)
The Barry-Lawrence Regional Library board met Sept. 18, with Pat Weber, CPA Group, presenting the 2009-2010 audit report. The Lamar Tigers defeated the Monett Cubs eighth grade football team 22-6 Thursday night. Lamar scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter by taking advantage of Monett miscues, one of which resulted in a 92-yard run with 2:30 left in the game. Monett was able to get on the scoreboard early. The Cubs scored just three plays on their opening drive. Quincy Jackson broke a 42-yard run for the first score.
