Monett road district begins summer projects (06/25/10)
Monett Special Road District commissioners have picked their summer maintenance projects. Over a mile of rural roads will be overlaid with hot mix this year and almost four miles will be covered with chip and seal. Road District Foreman Clayton Bunch reported to commissioners at their June meeting that roads were in better shape than had previously been expected after the late spring freezes and thaws. Bunch said the weather shifts still did a lot of damage...
McDonald's begins rebuilding process (06/25/10)
Construction work began this week on rebuilding the Monett McDonald's restaurant, which was destroyed by fire on Jan. 8. Rebuilding of the restaurant will be done by Plue Construction, of Florissant. The contract calls for work to be finished in 90 days...
Park improvements discussed at Pierce City council meeting (06/25/10)
With summer activities in full swing, members of the City Council in Pierce City discussed making improvements at the city's South Park at the council's June meeting. Mayor Allen Stockton said a major push had been needed to get the city pool ready to open on June 7. A YMCA-sponsored pool party on June 6 had to be cancelled due to equipment problems...
Sheriff launches new DWI campaign (06/25/10)
The Barry County Sheriff's Department will be cracking down on drunk drivers during the Fourth of July holiday thanks to a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Division. The grant funding will be used in support of a "You Drink and Drive. You Lose" enforcement campaign that will take place July 2 through July 5. During those four days, DWI enforcement efforts will be increased...
Gospel concert coming to Monett on July 3 (06/25/10)
HeirWave Internet Radio will bring a large gospel music concert to Monett for the second year on Saturday, July 3. The concert will be held at the First United Methodist Church, across from Monett's North Park. Six gospel music acts will perform, beginning at 2 p.m. Admission to the concert will be free with the donation of a non-perishable food item for the Crosslines food pantry...
