Tornado touchdown confirmed (05/14/10)
The storm that blew through Monett yesterday morning has been classified as an EF1 tornado. According to Bonnie Witt-Schulte, Monett 911 dispatching supervisor, National Weather Service investigators paid particular attention to the way bleachers were tossed around the soccer fields at South Park and damage to a silo at a rural farm west of Monett in making their determination. The wind patterns reflected rotational wind, which is the difference between a tornado and straight-line winds...
Purdy city officials talk about bond issue election (05/14/10)
The Purdy City Council made appointments for the coming year and discussed the upcoming bond issue during its May meeting. Aldermen chose to keep all the staff in their previous assignments. Senior center administrator set to retire (05/14/10)
A reception is planned on Sunday at the Monett Senior Citizens Center for Billie Bounous, who is retiring after serving five-and-a-half years as director. Bounous, who will turn 62 in July, decided to step down after her daughter, Megan, and son-in-law, Daniel Hoyt, made plans to move to Joplin. Hoyt is a urologist and will be joining a private practice in Joplin. Bounous said she wants to have more time to spend with her grandchildren...
Kids fish free at Roaring River State Park on Saturday (05/14/10)
Roaring River State Park will host its annual spring Kids' Fishing Day from 6:30 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. on May 15. Youngsters will have the opportunity to enjoy a free day of fishing and take part in numerous outdoor education classes.
