Temperatures hovered in the 30s under overcast skies as trout season got underway at Roaring River State Park, south of Cassville, this morning. Branson stars to perform for Habitat (03/01/10)
The Hughes Brothers, the Tony Turner Band and solo performer Bob Nichols, some of Branson's finest talent, will be featured at a March 27 event to benefit the Monett/Purdy affiliate of Habitat For Humanity. According to co-chairs Phyllis Garrett and Bill VanEaton, the benefit dinner and show will be held on Saturday, March 27 at Hill Creek Lodge near Pulaskifield. A social hour with appetizers will begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. A silent auction will also be held...
Program to recognize outstanding teachers (03/01/10)
EFCO, a Pella Corporation, is sponsoring a Teacher of the Month program in partnership with The Monett Times. The program was created to recognize outstanding local teachers and reward them. Each month, the winning teacher will receive a recognition plaque and a check from EFCO in the amount of $250 to be used for classroom supplies. The teacher will also featured in the newspaper, and the winning nomination letter will be published...

Marie Curtis, 90, of Monett, passed away at Lacoba Nursing Center. She was born on June 25, 1919 in Mansfield, to Austin and Margaret (Blanton) Brown. Mrs. Curtis worked as a nurses aide and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Marie is survived by one son: Anthony Curtis of Kansas City; three daughters: Ann Linnell, of Overland Park, Kan.; Billie Chaney, of Kansas City; and Donna Cox, of Monett; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren...
