Report shows fire damage down in Monett in 2009 (02/12/10)
Fire damage in Monett dropped 26 percent for 2009, compared to the previous calendar year, according to Fire Chief Tom Jones. Total runs declined by 4 percent though ambulance response and calls to help with helicopter landings continue to rise. Jones reported city firemen made 1,066 runs in 2009, a decrease of 37 from 2009 even though mutual aid for other departments rose by six. ...

Dairy producers get good news at seminar (02/12/10)
Dairy producers in 2009 saw the worst dairy profit collapse since the 1930s, said Joe Horner, University of Missouri Extension dairy economist. But Horner says the dairy producers "will return to profitability in 2010." Horner will be the lead speaker at five "Dairy Profit Seminars" being held across the state between Feb. 22 and Feb. 26. His assignment will be to talk about "Key Indicators of a Sustainable Dairy."...

Cubs teams bow to Seneca Indians (02/12/10)
Both the Monett boys and girls basketball squads travelled to Seneca last night for a pair of Big 8 games. The Cubs boys lost 75-53 to a strong Seneca team, and the Lady Cubs were defeated 57-41. Boys action Seneca came out firing from the start and was able to overpower the Cubs 18-4 in the first quarter and 28-14 in the second for a 46-18 half-time lead. Monett was unable to recover, and despite outscoring the Indians 35-29 in the second half, it was too little too late...
Both Lady Eagles teams win (02/12/10)
Purdy's Audrey Patton scored 11 points against McAuley Catholic last night to surpass the 1,000-point career scoring mark. The 5'10" junior helped lead the Lady Eagles to a solid 72-30 victory over the Lady Warriors. Patton was perfect from the field, going five-for-five...
Lady Wildcats upend Exeter (02/12/10)
If Danica Patrick could drive as well as the Verona backcourt, all the men would retire from NASCAR. Jessica Smith rolled in 21 points and Tristan Carrasquillo added 16 more as the Lady Wildcats won a big road victory at Exeter on Thursday night, 54-42. That leaves Verona and Purdy with just one conference loss apiece, and those two teams square off at Purdy on Feb. 26. Since Purdy will host Exeter on Feb. 18, that game between Verona and Purdy will indeed decide the Ozark 7 title...
