Monett Council hears furnace, fireworks, watch issues (11/27/09)
Monett City Council members held discussion on a new ordinance, heard presentations on two topics of community interest and listened to department heads describe work by city crews at the November monthly council meeting. Public discussion had been scheduled over new restrictions on the location of wood burning furnaces. Monettans arrested in meth conspiracy (11/27/09)
Four men, including two from Monett, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for participating in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Barry County. Ricardo Grimaldo, also known as "Rico," 38, and Joe L. Lizcano, 43, both of Monett, along with Igancio Servin-Chavez, also known as "Naco," 32, and Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez-Rodriguez, 26, both of Lowell, Ark., have been charged in a 10-count indictment returned under seal by a federal grand jury in Springfield on Monday, Nov. 23...
Monettan joins Honor Flight trip to nation's capital (11/27/09)
Seventy-six southwest Missouri veterans, including one from Monett, recently participated in the first area Honor Flight to Washington D.C. The national program seeks to take veterans to the nation's capital to visit war memorials. The flight on Nov. 17 was a day-long experience resulting made possibl by months of work. PC Council approves emergency borrowing (11/27/09)
The City Council in Pierce City held an emergency meeting on Monday to address a cash flow crisis. Aldermen authorized Mayor Carol Hirsch to secure a bank loan to carry the city for the next four months. Hirsch told aldermen expenses for making repairs and replacing equipment at the wastewater treatment plant plus repairing water leaks had left the general fund depleted.
