A slight improvement could be seen from the severity of the decline in recent months. A potential increase in the tax levy of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library through a special election was discussed at the October meeting of the library's Board of Trustees. Jean Berg, library director, told the board that due to Governor Nixon's veto of House Bill 148, the library district has been forced back from 17.43 cents to the 15- cent levy voted by the taxpayers in 1990.
