Recent flooding leads to bridge collapse (10/15/09)
By MURRAY BISHOFF Last week's heavy rains that caused flooding in downtown Monett contributed to the collapse of a rural bridge in Barry County yesterday. A fully loaded cattle truck nearly ended up in Capps Creek yesterday around 10 a.m. when the bridge over Farm Road 1040, southeast of the Monett Municipal Airport, broke under it. Scott Smith, who was driving the truck, managed to stop the vehicle on the bridge within just a few feet of the trailer's rear wheels dropping into the creek...
'Shake and Bake' meth lab seized in Barry County (10/15/09)
A Monett man is facing drug charges after agents with the Southwest Missouri Drug Task Force busted an active "shake and bake" methamphetamine lab at a Butterfield residence. Jeffrey Freeman, 32, of Monett, and Brian Hall, 32, of Butterfield, were arrested on the charges of attempting to manufacture a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. Vandals strike Purdy caboose (10/15/09)
Purdy aldermen discussed the recent vandalism of the city's caboose during the Oct. 12 city council meeting. Shortly after the caboose located in the city's park was repainted, graffiti was spray painted on the outside of the caboose. Lowe told aldermen he plans to attend the upcoming CrimeStoppers meeting to discuss the matter. In an effort to help prevent possible future vandalism, aldermen discussed placing an outside light near the caboose...
