Date set for annual Kings Prairie concert (07/24/09)
The 10th annual Kings Prairie benefit concert has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, at the historic school building and community center. Duke Mason will be back to headline the show. The benefit concert, which is the main event of the year for the Kings Prairie community southeast of Monett, raises money for the upkeep and improvement of the 1948 school building that is used for various club meetings and group functions. Freistatt board awards contract for crosswalk (07/24/09)
A contract was awarded for the construction of a crosswalk over Highway H at the July meeting of the Freistatt village board. Board trustees voted to hire Vaughn Construction of Monett to build the new crosswalk over Highway H, north of the post office. After contacting around 10 contractors and advertising for bids, engineer Kevin Sprenkle had only one bid to open. He advised trustees that Vaughn's bid was close to his estimate, and the board voted to accept the bid...
Water Thrashers Take Second At Carthage (07/24/09)
With 1,177 points the Monett Water Thrashers swim team finished second among 12 teams competing last weekend in the Carthage Invitational. Joplin Stingray won the meet with 1,476 1/2 points. Twenty swimmers from Monett took either first or second place in the competition...

Gordon Lawrence Holm, 66, of Purdy, died on Monday, July 20, 2009, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield. He was born Monday, August 10, 1942, in Gimli, Canada.
