Sweeney receives top award from Children's Center (04/17/09)
Retired Circuit Judge J. Edward Sweeney received the 2009 Karan Huffmaster Award April 4 at the Children's Center's sixth annual "Night in Italy" fundraising dinner. The award honors a member of the community who volunteers their time to help the Center and area children. Walda and Doug Thompson and Don and Lisa Trotter are previous winners...
Aurora teen held in shooting (04/17/09)
A male juvenile has been taken into custody folowing the shooting of 18-year-old David Cummings, of rural Aurora, on April 15. According to the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, Cummings was shot at the residence of a friend on Farm Road 2210. The sheriff's department was contacted when Cummings arrived at St. John's Hospital-Aurora with a gun shot wound. He was later airlifted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield where he underwent surgery for his injuries...
Monett Area YMCA to take over management of Pierce City pool (04/17/09)
The City Council in Pierce City has authorized a contract with the Monett Area YMCA for management of the municipal swimming pool for the first time. Farmers Market to open in Monett (04/17/09)
Next month the first formal farmers market in 10 years will open in Monett. The Southeast Asia America Farmers Organization, doing business as Monett Farmers Market, will begin offering produce for sale on Front Street between Third and Fourth streets. Sweeping all singles matches, the Monett Cubs easily defeated Reeds Spring 8-1 yesterday in a tennis encounter at Monett North Park. Monett went to two wins against three losses on the season. Monett Track Teams Take Second At East Newton (04/17/09)
Both the Monett Cubs boys and girls were a solid second yesterday in the East Newton track meet. The boys Cubs finished with a score of 83 behind champion Webb City's 100 points. MHS Cubs Blast Lamar In Baseball, 15-7 (04/17/09)
Pounding out 14 hits, the Monett Cubs bashed the Lamar Tigers yesterday 15-7 in a Big 8 Conference baseball game at Monett North Park. Monett improved to 4-2 on the season and evened its league record at 1-1. Lamar took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a single, passed ball and an error, but the Cubs countered with four in the bottom half of the frame...
