The second pool in the Monett Area YMCA will serve a variety of functions for older patrons. Standing at the top of the handicapped ramp, Gordon Brown explained how the pool will be equipped with a current for resistance exercises. Patrons will reach up to the cargo net at rear for support while they walk across the water on anchored plastic water lilies. South of the pool will be a splash pad for children, equipped with geysers and sea creatures above a half-mile of pipes. The water slide, at upper left, has two tubes, one of which is black inside, sending users outside the building on a downward spiral before bringing them out at ground level below the entrance.

The main swimming pool under construction at the new Monett Area YMCA is not an Olympic sized pool, said executive director Gordon Brown, but matches what is generally used in the Monett area for competition. The deep end will be 12 feet for dividing, sloping up to the shallow end, which is visible.

Crews began pouring concrete last week for the new main entrance on the south side of the Monett Area YMCA's new building at South Park. The entrance will serve a dual purpose, providing access to the Y's parking area on the east side of the building and to the new clubhouse for the Windmill Ridge Golf Course, which will be added in the summer of 2014.

The new events center at the Monett Area YMCA has a footprint as large as the old City Park Casino. Gordon Brown, YMCA executive director, said the events center will be connected to the child center on one side and a fully equipped kitchen on another. The events center, located on the southeast corner of the facility, will be available for public use between regularly scheduled YMCA activities.
