Bi-countians participate at the Ozark Empire Fair

The Ozark Empire Fair, which runs from July 27 to Aug. 4, attracts crowds and exhibitors from throughout southwest MIssouri. Many exhibitors from Barry and Lawrence counties showed their animals and artistic creations at the fair over opening weekend.
Glenn Obermann, of Monett, won high honors for his entries in the grass and hay show at the Ozark Empire Fair. Obermann's alfalfa hay won first place and grand champion honors. His alfalfa hay entry in the Class 1 legume division and his orchard grass hay entry in the Class 2 cool season grasses both won third place ribbons.

John Baty Jr., of Monett, is one of a dozen bi-county amateur photographers whose photos are part of the annual photography show at the Ozark Empire Fair. Baty's photo, above, is a water scene. Among the other local photographers are Taylor Henson, Sharon Swift and Chance Reynolds, of Pierce City; Kelley Martinez and Lisa Murphy, of Aurora; Lisa Hall and Crissy Carsten, of Marionville; Raymond Christian Jr. and Emma Mark, of Mt. Vernon; Nefertiti and Quixote Gautney-Lopez, of Cassville. This year the photography exhibit is located on both the east and west halls in the fairgrounds' E*Plex.

Monettan Al Dohmen won two second place ribbons for his quilt entries at the Ozark Empire Fair. Dohmen's heritage quilt, which is over 50 years old, won a red ribbon.

Hayden Fisher, of Aurora, won Best in Show in the 4-H rabbit show at the Ozark Empire Fair. Fisher, who has been showing for nine years, holds her Broken Havana rabbit, one of seven rabbits show exhibited.

Courtney Hurn, of Mt. Vernon, has been showing rabbits on and off at the Ozark Empire Fair for 15 years. He held a Siamese Satin, one of 15 rabbits he exhibited this year. His meat pen won second place.

Colista and Matt Walters, from the R&J Farms in Purdy, stood with their seven-month-old Saler bull , Who Done It, at the Ozark Empire Fair. The Walters showed a bull and five Saler heifers. Colista has been showing cattle for 15 years. This is Matt's first year.
